Sketchbook

Presidential Canidates

We were assigned to do free hand sketches of both of the 2012 presidential candidates as the 2012 election was approaching.  We were also told to write out quotes for the candidates.  We were also told to write out quotes that the candidates said.  We displayed all of the drawings somewhere in the school with Obama and blue stars on one side and Romney and red stars on the other side.

San Diego Collage

Project: The entire senior class of 2013 is making a tourism book about San Diego, so I two collages for North Park and for the beach from pictures I found in the San Diego Reader.

Accentuate the Positive... Eliminate the Negatative

Assignment: To mimic this concept, we will explore a media exercise. This requires that we choose an existing image from whatever source you prefer; magazine, newspaper, internet, photograph, etc…, and paint out or obscure the negative space, leaving only the chosen positive space as the focus. It could be interesting to isolate specific items that may not be what the original intent of the source material. We will aim to put a different spin on the original intention of the source you have chosen then reverse the method to produce an artwork that will eliminate the positive elements of the source, turning the main focus of the image into an, alternate, or negative space. We are refocusing the interest.  I do not really have an intention behind mine, they are just random pictures.

Political Collage

Assignment: Create a collage from newspapers and other media sources. This collage should have political significance and a concept behind  it. I want to see the art configured like the image here, with a large boarder of clean white paper surrounding the collage.  The purpose of my political collage was to encourage people to vote.
